Santa Teresa

The district is unique in Rio. It realy seems to have stopped in the XIX century. The eclectic architectural houses from the emperor period, cobblestone narrow streets and the historical tramway help to keep this idea.

Situated high on the hill overlooking Rio, It offers a stunning view of the city centre and the bay.

Among the attractions in Santa Teresa, the highlights are the Chacara do Ceu Museum, the Ruins Park, The Selaron Staircase, many historical churches and the Santa Teresa Convent, which originated the District.

During the Carnival, many popular bands perform on the streets and the most famous is the "Bloco das Carmelitas",which was named after the local XVIII century convent.
